Our New Visitor 8-16 & 8-17-15

Yesterday we spent the day preparing for our next visitor, Jim Cook, (aka Snake), a long-time friend from my rugby days in Denver.  Jim now lives in Los Angeles and was our host when we went out last January to the French Consulate to interview for our long-term visas.   This is his first trip to France so it will all be new.
Today we went out to Charles De Gaulle airport to meet Jim, he arrived at Terminal 2 which is something of a novelty to us because virtually else who has not cleared customs in Europe has come into terminal 1.  I think it may be because he flew a new Airbus A380, the behemoth double decker jet, and there may not be a jetway in terminal 1 that can handle such a large plane.

His plane actually arrived 1 hour early so we had to hustle to get out to the terminal, and ended up having a small breakfast at the arrivals hall.  They burnt our first sandwich order through inattention, so we had them make another and Deb commented that it was the worst sandwich since we arrived in Paris.  I commented that perhaps it was the second worst as we had made them discard what would obviously have been the worst.  Anyway we were there to meet Jim as he came out of the security area.
We took the train back to the apartment, where we got Jim arranged in our guest room, and then we had a bit of bread, cheese, and rose wine for a welcome lunch.   In order to keep Jim moving and help adjusting to Paris time we then had a walk along the canal and Bassin de la Villette.
With a couple stops at cafes to enjoy watching the activities of the last days of the Paris Plage (imported beach) being celebrated along the basin.  We had a nice little dinner in the apartment and all retired around 10:00pm for a nights rest at the end of Jim's first day.
